Ordinals protocol sparks debate over the place for NFTs in the Bitcoin ecosystem

TBitcoin is now getting NFT and meme-style digital artifacts. The protocol is called ordinals and was created by a software engineer called Casey Rodriguez and officially launched on the Bitcoin mainnet. The protocol allows for the Bitcoin version of NFTs — described as digital artifacts on the bitcoin network. Some argue it offers more financial uses for Bitcoin.

Others say it provides more financial help for the currency. Some have pointed out that these NFT-like structures have taken up block space on the Bitcoin network, which could drive up transaction fees. Among those who argued to their 237,600 followers on Jan 29: Privileged, wealthy whites using JPGs as status symbols might exclude marginalized people from participating.

Blockstream CEO and Bitcoin core developer Adam Back criticized the censorship of undesirable transactions over the last 48 hours. According to the Ordinals website, only 277 digital artifacts have been inscribed so far.
