State of Data Science And AI Skills in India

The report is a joint effort by NASSCOM, Salesforce, and Draup. The demand for artificial intelligence, data analytics, and data science has increased. India is projected to see massive growth in the market for AI and data science professionals. There is a 51% gap between AI and ML tech talent demand and supply in India. The current workforce is 420,000 professionals with a median age of 35.

A young and educated population can be attributed to a surge in demand for talent. There is a substantial demand and supply gap for some job roles, from around 60 to 73%. Thirty-three percent of India’s data science & AI developer population is female. Ml engineers, data scientists, DevOps engineers, and data architects are in high demand. India’s data annotation & labeling services market is expected to be worth $7 billion by 2030 and engage a potential workforce of 1 million.

Women comprise 28% of India’s AI workforce, with most having 0-5 years of experience. There are still some hurdles to overcome, such as legacy systems and sloppy data that are not easily accessible for sharing. Other reports have not covered the gap in DS&AI positions.
