The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has partnered with the Digital Government Authority (DGA). They will launch a blockchain-based tracking system for food and beverages in Saudi Arabia. The system will allow consumers to track the source of their food from the farm to the point of sale, with details on each stage of the supply chain. The service will increase transparency and strengthen consumers’ trust in the halal status of their products.
The new system will record data in decentralized, unalterable records, providing a level of security and transparency. It will also support local companies in obtaining halal certification and reaching global markets as the halal products market continues to grow. This initiative is one of the first in the world to apply blockchain technology to product tracking issued by a government agency.
